What makes you an ideal candidate for this position?
I am running for Vice Chair because I am passionate about working to elect and re-elect Democrats up and down the ballot. My family instilled in me a profound understanding of New Mexico’s rich culture and deep Democratic values. I’ve volunteered for dozens of campaigns across New Mexico for Democratic candidates. Whether it was for local races in my hometown of Las Vegas, NM, Obama’s “Campaign for Change”, local races in Las Cruces and Bernalillo County, or virtually for President Biden’s campaign––I show up for our party and New Mexico! I’ve planned voter drives, town halls, forums, and created numerous opportunities for New Mexicans to get involved in our party. I will expand upon this work as Vice Chair and ensure that the party is supporting our values and our candidates. And my background in behavioral health will help me lead the DPNM Judicial Council with equity, fairness, and compassion.
What is the number one goal you would like to achieve for the Democratic Party of New Mexico in this position? And how do you envision yourself working to achieve this goal?
My main priority as DPNM Vice Chair will be to re-elect Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham to a second term. Our Governor has been a leader in the handling of COVID-19 Public Health Crisis and we need to re-elect her so that she can continue working to strengthen our state and continue her fight for ALL New Mexicans. In order to re-elect her we must emphasize registration of first time, young and minority voters in DPNM’s voter outreach efforts. As a young LGBTQ+ person of color who speaks fluent Spanish, I want to help lead our outreach efforts to voters who feel they are not being listened to, get them involved in the process, and engaged with the Democratic Party and our candidates. I will continue to be responsive, adaptive, inclusive, and transparent to everybody and I pledge to be an advocate who embraces the diversity of our people.
