Nicole Michelle Olonovich
I come from the Martinez/Maestas clan of Bernalillo. Raised by two loving lesbian women in the 80’s. I am one of the first wave of children who was taught openly, “love is love.” Wanting to give myself a chance at a future I was the first in my family to go to college, and successfully earned a master’s in business as well as a master’s in social work, with a 4.0 GPA from New Mexico Highlands University. When I was 18 years old, I decided to get this education I was going to not only serve my country but serve the State of New Mexico. I joined the New Mexico Air National Guard. I served in Iraq, where I was exposed and came home with a respiratory disability. Now, I have put my name in with the DPNM for various positions, though this is not my first, if selected this would be the first time representing my state. I know what its like to be marginalized and overlooked. To check the box of Hispanic, disabled, female, and/or bisexual. I am only 36 years old but if not for some amazing mentors in New Mexico, I might still be lost in political mindset that I spent 13 years behind, Republican. Right now, we have a window of opportunity to unite our progressive and moderate democrats, while reaching across the isle to our republican voters who are tired of the infighting or events of January 6th. In addition, I am of the firm belief that we can gain a new wave of active youth voters if we show them that politics in the state of New Mexico are more than just for premeditated classes, ages, genders, races, or any of the “ism’s.” It is possible to grow and maintain leadership of democrats within New Mexico we just need to remember to uplift ALL voices. I want to help reach all the unheard voices in our state and uplift them to the platform. For that reason, I humbly request your vote for one of the ten Affirmative Action positions.
