As we get closer to Election Day, voters want to know where candidates stand on the issues they care about. New Mexico voters will look to resources like the NM League of Women Voters’ Voter Guide for information on where the candidates stand. But when they look for answers on where Alexis Martinez Johnson stands on abortion – they will see that she refused to give an answer. Alexis Martinez Johnson can’t hide from her support for an abortion ban in New Mexico and across the country.

“No Response Received”

Previously, Alexis responded to the iVoter Guide questionnaire stating her clear support of a total abortion ban, with no exceptions. The Life At Conception Act, which was introduced by House Republicans earlier in this Congress, would enact a total abortion ban without exceptions for rape and incest.

When the Supreme Court Dobbs decision was released, Alexis doubled down and celebrated the decision, saying “I applaud the Supreme Court’s verdict to return the decision back to the state’s legislative and executive branches. Gracias a Dios.”

Now that we are in the final stretch to the election, and it’s clear that New Mexico voters want their elected leaders to protect access to abortion care, Alexis Martinez Johnson is taking a page from Mark Ronchetti’s book and trying to hide her extremist record on the issue.

New Mexicans are too smart for that. It’s clear where Alexis Martinez Johnson stands. And it’s not with New Mexico’s women. If elected, Martinez Johnson would be another vote for Republicans’ nationwide abortion ban.
