In a recent survey, Lujan Grisham’s response beat out Trump’s by 51 points
According to a recent survey conducted by The Majority Institute, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s COVID-19 response has a 62% approval rating, giving her a net +36 rating. In stark contrast, Trump’s response received just a 40% approval rating, while 55% of New Mexicans disapproved.
Governor Lujan Grisham’s response scored well among both Democrats and Independents with 83% and 60% approval ratings respectively.
This poll reflects a larger, national disappointment with the Trump administration’s chaotic and unplanned coronavirus response. According to a survey from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research, just 23% of Americans say they can trust information about the virus from the president.
Since the first signs of this pandemic, New Mexico’s elected officials have been taking smart steps to address COVID-19. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s leadership shows how early action, access to healthcare and science-based policies can reduce infection rates. Similarly, our Congressional delegation has fought for relief packages which have allowed for cash assistance, secured funding for unemployment, fund hospitals, increase testing and support for our small businesses.
Democratic Party of New Mexico Chair Marg Elliston released the following statement on the recent Majority Institute Poll:
“Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham’s leadership has been vital in keeping New Mexicans safe and healthy. Our elected officials have shown what happens when we elect Democrats – increased testing, access to healthcare, financial assistance for working people, and support for small businesses. While President Trump fumbled the response to COVID-19 our elected officials are showing exactly why New Mexicans are more energized than ever and ready to put a Democrat in the White House in 2020.”
