DPNM Chair Jessica Velasquez released the following statement on election night:
“I could not be more proud of the efforts of our volunteers, staff and candidates who put in countless hours and traveled to every corner of our diverse state. We have so many positives to highlight from tonight. New Mexicans sent a resounding message – we want public servants who put New Mexico first.
We are thrilled that Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham resoundingly won reelection tonight. By reelecting her, we can continue moving New Mexico forward. This is a victory for students, working families, small businesses, and reproductive rights. No doubt about it, the Governor will continue to fight for the best New Mexico possible for everyone.
DPNM is proud that we reelected both Congresswomen Teresa Leger Fernandez and Melanie Stansbury, by impressive margins. We’re confident they will continue to be champions for democracy and reproductive rights in Congress and we are lucky to have them represent New Mexico.
Our statewide slate of candidates was decisively victorious. The voters sent a clear message that they trust Democrats to continue running our statewide offices. Every one of our statewide candidates ran campaigns that spoke to every New Mexican, and their victory shows that.
In our Second Congressional District, Gabe Vasquez is in a dead heat and we’re optimistic that he will pull ahead as the night goes on. We always knew this would be a close race, and it’s turning out to be one of the most captivating cliffhangers in the country..
Throughout the course of this campaign, we’ve seen candidates at every level of the GOP descend ever further to the far-right while parroting conspiratorial and xenophobic talking points. The voters sent a resounding message: the New Mexico GOP is out of touch with New Mexicans. The main message we should take away from tonight is that New Mexicans choose Democrats to represent them and their families because Democrats deliver.”
