ALBUQUERQUE-Democratic Party of New Mexico Chair Jessica Velasquez released the following statement after tonight’s GOP presidential primary debate:

“We saw at tonight’s debate how far right Republicans have come. Logic and facts have no place in today’s GOP. The legacy of division and insurrection of the elephant who was not in the room was on full display.

“Tonight made it clear: the MAGA agenda lives on in the Republican Party, which seeks to ban abortion, guts Social Security and Medicare, puts the gun lobby above the safety of schools and neighborhoods, denies climate change, and defends attacks on our democratic institutions.

“Meanwhile, President Biden and Vice President Harris are continuing to build on their record of job creation and growing the economy from the middle out and bottom up.

“My takeaway from the GOP debate is that any of these Republican candidates would undo the progress of the Biden-Harris Administration and would be a return to the divisive MAGA agenda and failed GOP policies. Social Security, abortion rights and the future of democracy are on the ballot in the next election, and we can’t afford another MAGA presidency. Even with everything President Biden has accomplished, there’s still more work to do, and New Mexico Democrats are with him every step of the way to see it through.”
