The Democratic Party of New Mexico released the following statement after Donald Trump announced his plans to run for President in the 2024 election:

“For four years, our country suffered under the presidency of Donald Trump. In his announcement speech at Mar-a-Lago, we heard him shift blame and make excuses for the many failures of his presidency. As president, he flagrantly disrespected our democratic institutions and continues to put himself above the law, even after losing reelection. Despite his “America first” slogan, Trump always shows he can only put himself first.

Trump’s presidency offered nothing to the American people other than divisiveness and delusional egomania. He consistently set the bar lower than we ever thought possible for a U.S. President, culminating in his attempt to overturn the election he lost and instigating the violent attack on our nation’s capitol. He attacked women’s rights, lost American jobs, defended racists and seditionists, and attacked health care.

In the midterms, voters across the country rejected his hand-picked MAGA candidates and made it clear that Donald Trump’s extremism has no future in our government. Trump tried his hardest to dismantle our democracy and move America backward. Whether he’s the Republican nominee for president in 2024 or not, we’re certain that Americans will reject the MAGA agenda and choose to stand on the right side of history.”
