Yvette Herrell Campaigns With Ted Cruz after Voting Against Helping New Mexico Fire Victims
Yvette Herrell Once Again Chooses to Score National MAGA Points over Helping New Mexicans
Albuquerque – Today, Yvette Herrell is campaigning in Las Cruces with MAGA figurehead and GOP Texas Senator Ted Cruz, just days after voting against federal aid for New Mexico families impacted by the Calf Canyon/Hermit’s Peak fire. The Hermit’s Peak Fire Assistance Act passed both the House and Senate last week, receiving affirmative votes from all four Democrats from New Mexico’s federal delegation.
Herrell voted against this relief for families impacted by the largest New Mexican fire on record, many of whom lost their homes, livestock, ranches, and livelihoods. However, she bizarrely tried to take credit on twitter for the provisions she ultimately voted against.
Yet today, Herrell is holding a campaign event with Texas Senator Ted Cruz at the Farm & Ranch State Museum. This just goes to show that once again, she will choose cozying up to the far-right wing of the national GOP before New Mexicans every time.
“Yvette Herrell doesn’t care about the people of New Mexico, she cares about scoring points with national MAGA figures like Ted Cruz,” said DPNM spokesperson Daniel Garcia. “She knew voting to help New Mexico families affected by our biggest fire on record was the right thing to do and chose not to do it. Yvette Herrell won’t be there for New Mexico families, but she’ll gladly show up for Ted Cruz.”
Ted Cruz and Yvette Herrell check the same extreme MAGA boxes:
Climate change denial which increases water scarcity and leads to persistently worsening fire seasons
Wanting to ban abortion and punish women and doctors
The Hermit’s Peak Fire Assistance Act received strong bipartisan support, passing both the Senate and the House. It is part of the Continuing Resolution funding the government signed by President Biden on Friday.
