NM GOP Candidate for State Treasurer Covers His Inferior Record with Dishonest Campaign Tactics
At a Federated Republican Women Luncheon in Rio Rancho last June, New Mexico GOP candidate for State Treasurer Harry Montoya was caught on audio calling Northern New Mexico voters “low IQ”
as part of a fundraising pitch he made to attendees. Harry Montoya explained why he needs campaign funds to trick Northern New Mexico voters he thinks aren’t intelligent enough to understand who is on the ballot.
“…because now with two Montoya’s on the ticket, there’s a lot of, I’m just gonna say it, there’s a lot of people who don’t know much and do much research, low voter IQ people that go vote, especially up north, and they’re gonna see a Montoya Democrat and Montoya Republican. And they’re just gonna say, ‘oh, Montoya Democrat’, that’s how much they put into the thought process of how they’re gonna vote.”
This isn’t the last time Harry Montoya insulted the intelligence of Northern New Mexico voters. He did it again in a recent campaign robocall. He was recently called out by the Santa Fe New Mexican
for his robocall that attempts to mislead Northern New Mexican voters by trying to run away from his own GOP party affiliation. As Milan Simonich writes:
“But why let truth get in the middle of a robocall? Montoya hoped to sound like a Democrat in a cynical attempt to gain votes. He assumed any number of Northern New Mexico Democrats would support him if his message was murky enough to disguise his current political affiliation.”
“Harry Montoya should be ashamed that he continually insults the intelligence of Northern New Mexicans,” said Democratic Party of New Mexico Communications Director Daniel Garcia. “Harry Montoya’s dishonest and condescending tactics are his attempts to compensate for his lack of experience managing and investing billions of dollars – exactly the experience that Democrat Laura M. Montoya has a proven track record of.”
