New Mexicans still wondering just how strict of an abortion ban Mark Ronchetti is proposing for the state now need only follow the money. New campaign filing reports out yesterday show that Ronchetti’s campaign accepted $5,000 from the extreme anti-abortion group, Susan B. Anthony List on September 23.

The Virginia-based national anti-abortion group’s mission is “to end abortion” and has worked since the Dobbs decision to restrict abortion “in every state and in every legislature.” The group has found a common ally in Mark Ronchetti, who described himself as “strongly pro-life” and opposed to a woman’s right to choose “at all stages.”

Susan B. Anthony’s List opposes abortion even in cases of rape, calling such exceptions “abominable.” In fact, the group opposes IUDs and Plan B and have promoted the dangerous lie that abortion is “never medically necessary” to save the life of the mother.

“There’s only one reason why a national abortion ban group would send $5,000 across the country to Mark Ronchetti: they know he wants to ban abortion in New Mexico,” said Daniel Garcia, Communications Director of the Democratic Party of New Mexico. “There’s no question that Susan B. Anthony List sees Mark Ronchetti as a key part of their national agenda to enact an abortion ban in ‘every state and every legislature.’

“New Mexicans are right to ask: Who is Ronchetti campaigning with and who pays his bills? In either case, it’s hard-line, anti-abortion extremists like Trump VP Mike Pence and Virginia Governor Glenn Youngkin and now the Susan B. Anthony List, whose ‘mission is to to end abortion,’ according to its own website.”
