Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García and New Mexico Elected Officials Meet with Young Leaders and Community Activists

Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García met this weekend with young leaders and community activists at Barelas Coffee House, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, where he hosted an informal discussion about public service and political involvement. The discussion covered topics such as coalition building, the importance of diverse representation, and opportunities for young people to get involved in the political process.

New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas, State Auditor Brian Colón, New Mexico State Representative Javier Martínez, and Democratic Party of New Mexico Chair Marg Elliston joined Congressman García for the discussion.

”In order to build the next generation of leaders, mentorship opportunities are vital to growing and achieving success,” said President of YDNM, Brianna Gallegos. “A big thanks to DPNM and Congressman García for the informative conversations and inspiration to conquer future endeavors. Mentors like Congressman García and many of our democratic leaders in New Mexico empower us to get more involved.”

“We were so excited to welcome Congressman García to the Land of Enchantment,” said Democratic Party of New Mexico Chair Marg Elliston. “An event like this is a great opportunity for young New Mexicans to hear firsthand from someone who is fighting to improve the lives of working families within his community and at a national level.”

“Congressman García is an inspiration for young people who are passionate about progressive politics and interested in making a difference,” said New Mexico State Representative Javier Martínez. “It was fantastic to have the voices of young New Mexicans at the center of this discussion, and to hear from a U.S. Representative who is so committed to uplifting the efforts of young Democrats.”

Congressman García inspired New Mexicans all day long, said State Auditor Brian Colón. “The lens he looks through based on his journey to Congress is unique and critically important. I was honored to sit with him and our next generation of leaders to discuss issues that impact those who have historically been marginalized and what we can begin doing now with our youth for a brighter future.

“Our young people are the most important investment of time for our future,” said New Mexico Attorney General Hector Balderas. “I was honored to spend time today with the next generation of democratic leadership and welcome Congressman García to New Mexico to discuss the future of politics and policy.”

“Groups of young people like those I met in New Mexico make me optimistic for our future as a country and as a community,” said Congressman Jesús “Chuy” García. “On so many critical issues young people are getting ready to take the reins. That enthusiasm is why I believe it’s so important to invest in the next generation of leaders and truly represent the diversity in our country. I am honored to be a part of inspiring action among these incredible young New Mexicans.”
