Democratic electors today cast their ballots to elect and certify the entire New Mexico delegation at the 2020 Democratic Party of New Mexico (DPNM) post-primary convention. New Mexico Democrats elected 23 Congressional delegates, 4 Party Leader and Elected Official delegates, and 7 At-large delegates, who will join New Mexico’s 11 automatic delegates.
Due to the challenges presented by COVID-19, DPNM held an all virtual post-primary convention, including electronic ballots and opportunities to observe ballot counting through Zoom. Electors were sent video messages from party leaders including, Vice President Joe Biden, Senator Tom Udall, Senator Martin Heinrich, Senator Elizabeth Warren, Representative Ben Ray Luján, Representative Deb Haaland, Representative Xochitl Torres Small, and DNC Chair Tom Perez.
Delegates will take part in selecting the Democratic presidential nominee at the 2020 Democratic National Convention from August 17th to 20th.
“We’re excited to be sending a diverse and representative delegation to the Democratic National Convention this year,” said DPNM Chair Marg Elliston. “Even in the midst of a pandemic, so many Democrats stepped up to be a part of this process and ensure that our state’s voice is heard on the national stage.
