DPNM Celebrates A Return to Normalcy As New Mexico Reopens

New Mexico lifted all COVID-19 restrictions this week, signaling a return to normalcy after over a year of necessary sacrifice from all New Mexicans to keep our families and our communities safe. Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham led one of the most successful responses to the pandemic in the country, saving thousands of lives by preventing the spread of cases and establishing equitable testing, contract tracing, and vaccine distribution systems. Thanks to the leadership of President Joe Biden, Governor Lujan Grisham, and Democratic leaders across the state, not only was New Mexico able to weather the pandemic, but also made advancements on key issues like education and economic development over the last year.

As Governor Lujan Grisham reminded New Mexicans this week, COVID-19 is serious and is still a threat to the community, especially for those who are unvaccinated. The Democratic Party of New Mexico encourages everyone who is eligible to get vaccinated.

As restrictions are lifted, Democratic Party leadership is encouraging state parties and other organizations to expand operations in ways that have not been possible in the past year. Our staff and officers are beginning to travel to counties across New Mexico, including Doña Ana, where our Chair will celebrate the Fourth of July. We’re also looking forward to holding in-person events with Democratic voters.

“We are grateful to Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham for her principled leadership and sound judgement throughout this pandemic,” said DPNM Chair Jessica Velasquez. “Her willingness to put New Mexicans first and make the hard choices has made it possible for our state to recover and move toward a brighter future. We look forward to engaging with voters around the state as New Mexico reopens and we begin the effort to reelect our incredible governor!”
