DPNM Chair and Vice Chair Visit Roy to Meet with Regional Democrats

Leaders from DPNM, Colfax, Curry, Harding, Quay, Roosevelt, and Union counties

ROY, N.M. – Democratic Party of New Mexico (DPNM) Chair Marg Elliston and Vice Chair Marcus Porter spoke with Democratic leaders in Colfax, Curry, Harding, Quay, Roosevelt, and Union counties today at a regional meeting of eastern and northeastern Democratic party officials. They were also joined by CD-3 Vice Chairs Cheryl Ford and Willie Marquez.

At the meeting, county leaders discussed how to bolster eastern and northeastern county voices in upcoming elections. They covered topics that are most central to their counties, including rural health care, education, infrastructure, and economic development. In her speech, Chairwoman Elliston emphasized DPNM’s commitment to hearing from Democrats in every corner of our state and outlined plans to build on the statewide momentum that we saw in 2020. Vice Chairman Porter discussed the work of the Young Democrats of New Mexico and spoke about DPNM initiatives to build grassroots support.

“It was fantastic to hear from so many county leaders this weekend about the issues that are affecting New Mexicans in the eastern and northeastern part of our state,” said Democratic Party of New Mexico Chair Marg Elliston. “Democrats are committed to organizing in all 33 counties in 2020. We were thrilled to see so much enthusiasm at this meeting, and we look forward to carrying that energy forward during this election cycle.”

“I was glad to meet with a group of Democrats that represents some of our party’s diverse interests and priorities,” said Democratic Party of New Mexico Vice Chair Marcus Porter. “Rural counties have a unique perspective on Democratic issues, and we’re making sure that those perspectives are heard by engaging with Democrats in all corners of our state.”

“It was exciting to welcome state and county party leaders to Harding county for this meeting,” said Harding County Democratic Party Vice Chair Pedro Laumbach. “Eastern and northeastern counties are speaking out about the issues that matter most to us, like economic development and rural health care. Having those issues heard at a state-level is a great way to build on the enthusiasm that we see here on the ground.”
