After spending the past several months refusing to accept Joe Biden as President-elect, promoting election disinformation, and spreading baseless claims of voter fraud and divisive rhetoric about stealing elections, Rep. Yvette Herrell has now come to terms with reality and accepted Joe Biden as President-elect, per a KRQE report this evening. DPNM Chair Marg Elliston released the following statement in response:
“Rep. Herrell’s about-face to accept Joe Biden as President-elect is long overdue and does nothing to repair the damage she’s done. She has spent the last several months spreading election disinformation and baseless voter fraud claims, which she still refuses to disavow. After a violent mob fueled by the disinformation she helped to spread stormed and breached the Capitol killing a US Capitol police officer in the process, she voted not once, but twice, to oppose the certification of the election and a peaceful transition of power. Her actions to undermine our democracy cannot be forgiven. It’s too little too late. New Mexicans will remember where she stood when it mattered the most. She put personal politics first and her constituents second, and she will be judged accordingly.”
For months, Rep. Herrell has refused to accept Joe Biden as President-elect even as federal and state courts dismissed cases due to lack of evidence brought forth by President Trump’s campaign contending voter fraud, and Trump’s Attorney General, William Barr, said there was no widespread voter fraud.
