DPNM Statement on President Biden’s First 100 Days in Office

Today marks 100 days since President Joe Biden took office, and New Mexicans have already seen the positive impact of his presidency. President Biden has delivered on major campaign promises, including the passage of the historic American Rescue Plan, which has provided New Mexico with

  • Over $2 billion in funding for state and local governments
  • More than $1 billion in relief for K-12 schools
  • Direct payments of up to $1,400 for more than 92% of New Mexican adults
  • Additional relief of up to $1,600 through the Child Tax Credit to the families of 454,000 children, lifting 32,000 children out of poverty
  • Relief of up to nearly $1,000 through the Earned Income Tax Credit to 135,000 childless workers, including many in frontline jobs
  • Lower monthly health care costs, especially for older New Mexicans

As New Mexicans benefit from these policies, the Biden administration is already looking to the future by working to pass the American Jobs Plan, which would make a historic investment in New Mexico’s roads and bridges, public transportation, drinking water, housing, broadband, and public health.

DPNM Chair Jessica Velasquez released the following statement regarding President Biden’s first 100 Days:

“When President Biden took office he got to work right away helping our nation get back on track, by taking smart steps to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic and invest in working families. This work has already been felt in New Mexico, where local, state, and national Democrats have worked together to vaccinate over 57% of the population and provide critical relief for working families. In just 100 days we have seen how competent and compassionate leadership has begun to transform our nation, and we look forward to all that this administration will accomplish in the coming years.”
