DPNM Vice Chair Marcus Porter Statement on Trump’s Recent Racist Comments

In recent weeks, President Trump has unleashed a series of racist attacks. He has told four sitting Congresswomen–all of whom are both women of color and American citizens–to “go back” to their countries. Most recently, he has attacked Rep. Elijah Cummings and referred to his majority-black Baltimore district as a “disgusting, rat and rodent infested mess.”  These attacks are just the latest in a long string of racist statements from the President, including referring to African nations as “shithole countries” and praising white supremacists in Charlottesville as “very fine people.”

Democratic Party of New Mexico Vice Chairman Marcus Porter released the following statement in response to President Trump’s latest racist comments:

“This sort of bigotry has no place in our country. Time and time again, the president has attacked black Americans and used racist language to describe communities of color. As a Baltimore native, and more importantly as an American, I am horrified to see a sitting president show such intense disrespect for American communities and American values. A president willing to denigrate his own cities and verbally assail sitting Members of Congress has no business in the White House.”
