This afternoon, KOB reported that federal authorities have asked that Couy Griffin, the leader of Cowboys for Trump, be held without bond on charges stemming from his role in the violent January 6th U.S. Capitol riot until his court case is complete. In the motion federal authorities wrote, “[t]he defendant has taken ‘nothing off the table’ in pursuit of his aims to ensure ‘Biden will never be president.’ The defendant’s inflammatory conduct, repeated threats, delusional worldview, and access to firearms makes him a danger to the community.”
On Sunday night, Rep. Yvette Herrell surreptitiously deleted posts that tied her to him, however, she has yet to publicly and unequivocally denounce his support, despite the role he played the riot that left one U.S. Capitol Police officer dead.
“Today, the federal authorities labeled Couy Griffin ‘a danger to the community.’ If Rep. Herrell really has the best interest of New Mexicans and our communities in mind then she must immediately and unequivocally denounce Griffin’s support once and for all. Refusing to do so is a tacit acceptance and approval of his actions and rhetoric,” said DPNM Chair Marg Elliston. “Unfortunately, her failed leadership has shown that she cannot be trusted to stand up for New Mexican values or do anything other than put herself and her extreme personal political views before her constituents.”
