Yesterday, GOP Chairman Steve Pearce discouraged any other candidates from jumping in the gubernatorial race—much to Mark Ronchetti’s chagrin. “Radical” Ronchetti has been teetering between running for governor and staying in his kushy weatherman job at KRQE, and “Amarillo” Steve Pearce just weighed in.
In a radio interview with KKOB, “Amarillo” Steve said that if GOP candidates “aren’t in now, they’re going to have a hard time.” Pearce then admitted that any candidate late to the race would have an extremely difficult time fundraising, getting their name on the ballot, and raising support within the party—and as he put it, “that’s always a bad kind of a bad precedent to try to work from.” Unfortunately for Ronchetti, even if he were to jump in the race this late, at this point it looks like he wouldn’t have Chairman Steve’s support.
“Radical” Ronchetti has been taking a page from Trump’s book and lying to the press about the likelihood of a run. Last week, Ronchetti told the Santa Fe New Mexican that he hasn’t “done anything of a political nature” since he was overwhelmingly rejected by New Mexican voters in the 2020 senatorial election. However, Republican leaders have admitted that Ronchetti has been having closed door political meetings regarding his possible candidacy. If “Radical” Ronchetti is willing to lie to the press, he’s willing to lie to the people of New Mexico.
If “Radical” Ronchetti still wants to jump in the dumpster fire of the GOP primary, he’d be doing so against the recommendations of the New Mexico Republican party, without the trust of the New Mexico press, and without the support of New Mexican voters.
