Democratic leadership continues to protect the state’s economy and the health and safety of New Mexican families
Yesterday, New Mexico reached a monumental milestone in the war on COVID-19—achieving a 70% vaccination rate among adults. Thanks to Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham and diligent Democratic leadership, New Mexico now has the highest vaccination rate in the West and the fifth highest vaccination rate in the country. Democratic leaders and elected officials have remained steadfast, supporting science-backed guidelines, combatting COVID-19 misinformation from the GOP, and protecting New Mexico’s booming economy.
During yesterday’s public briefing, New Mexico Deputy Health Secretary Laura Parajon called the vaccination rate an “incredible milestone,” and reminded us all that vaccination “is our best way out of this pandemic.” Democrats continue to prioritize their health and the health of their community—and their commitment to science-backed solutions will lead to lower case numbers, less community spread, and fewer overwhelmed hospitals. The vaccination effort will also help New Mexico’s industry and small businesses to continue to grow.
“Throughout the pandemic, Governor Lujan Grisham and all of our Democratic elected officials have demonstrated strong, principled leadership in the face of the COVID-19 virus and the barrage of misinformation from the radicalized right,” said DPNM Chair Jessica Velasquez. “New Mexicans have shown that they trust science, trust state leadership, and will do what it takes to end the COVID-19 pandemic.”
