Herrell Remains Quiet on Liz Cheney Ousting

As GOP Further Embraces Trump Lies, New Mexicans Deserve to Know Where Herrell Stands

Representative Liz Cheney was removed from her position as House Republican Conference Chairwoman today by a voice vote. She was ousted after months of speaking out against former-President Trump’s claims that the 2020 election was “stolen” from him.

Cheney is expected to be replaced by Representative Elise Stefanik, who has been an outspoken supporter of Trump’s dangerous lies, even after that rhetoric led violent insurrections to attack the US Capitol on January 6th.

As her party further embraces Trump’s lies and extremist rhetoric, Representative Yvette Herrell has refused to comment on if she supports removing Cheney from Republican House Leadership.

“The GOP is embracing extremism and silencing those voices in their own party who are defending free and fair elections,” said DPNM Chair Jessica Velasquez. “New Mexicans deserve to know where Herrell stands on the 2020 elections, and if she will continue to march in lockstep as her party threatens our democracy.”
