NM GOP Continues to Support Bizarre, Dangerous Candidate for Secretary of State
In case you’ve missed it, Republican candidate for New Mexico Secretary of State, Audrey Trujillo checks almost every box on the far-right conspiracy theorist checklist.
✅Staunchly believes the 2020 election was “stolen” from Donald Trump
✅Claims school shootings are staged as part of an “agenda” from the “deep state”
✅Claims President Biden has a clone and/or body double
✅Has shared anti-Semitic content on social media
✅Has no experience and wants to eliminate all absentee and early voting
✅Has the full support of the NM GOP as one of their most prominent figures
Despite her running to be New Mexico’s top election official, Audrey Trujillo staunchly asserts that the 2020 election was stolen from Donald Trump, despite all evidence to the contrary. Her platform for NM Secretary of State is focused on undermining fair and accessible elections. As disturbing as her thoughts on elections are, these are actually some of the more tame conspiracy theories Trujillo believes.
Trujillo claims that school shootings are part of an “agenda” from the “deep state”. She is parroting the same conspiracy theories as InfoWars host, Alex Jones, who is currently on trial for a $150 million defamation lawsuit related to the matter. She and Alex Jones continue to offend the victim’s families and their memories.
She’s on video saying Biden has a “clone” or a body double, echoing prominent Qanon figures. Additionally, she fully embraces a slew of anti-semitic conspiracy theories that she has posted on her social media. When discussing media coverage she’s received for it, she said she was “speaking the truth.”
As one of the most prominent candidates in New Mexico’s Republican Party, Trujillo represents how far the mainstream GOP has descended into conspiratorial extremism. Voters should know that the Republican running for NM Secretary of State has no experience and demonstrates persistent xenophobic and conspiratorial behavior.
Democrat Maggie Toulouse Oliver has a proven record of expanding ballot access while administering free, fair, and secure elections. She was elected by her colleagues, Democrats and Republicans, to serve as President of the National Association of Secretaries of State in 2020, and has a record of empowering voters – not one party or the other. This week, she testified to the US Senate Judiciary Committee as an expert witness related to “protecting our democracy’s frontline workers.” Sec. Toulouse Oliver continues to excel in her role, despite threats of violence spurred by lies and misinformation – some of which Trujillo continues to repeat. New Mexicans can rest assured their votes will be counted and protected under Sec. Toulouse Oliver’s leadership.”
