New Mexico Democrats Make History, Elect First Hispanic Woman to Represent Second Congressional District

Tonight, Xochitl Torres Small won a hard-fought race to become the first woman and first Hispanic person elected to represent New Mexico’s Second Congressional District. Marg Elliston, Chair of the Democratic Party of New Mexico, released the following statement in response:

“Xochitl Torres Small won a race that nobody thought was possible for a Democrat to win, but she won because of her ability to bring people together and fight for what matters to all New Mexicans. The district will now have a dynamic leader who will stand up for our American values and work to forge commonsense policies in Congress to build a better future for New Mexico.”
