NM Dems on Final Passage of Universal Background Checks

On Monday night, the New Mexico House passed Senate Bill 8, which requires universal background checks for firearm sales. The Senate previously passed this bill and Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham intends to sign it. Marg Elliston, Chair of the Democratic Party of New Mexico, released this statement:

“Voters in New Mexico sent strong Democratic leadership to the Roundhouse to tackle the gun violence epidemic, and tonight our legislature made good on that promise in the face of an unprecedented campaign of fear and misinformation. I look forward to law enforcement carrying out their duty to protect by strongly and consistently applying this legislation when Governor Lujan Grisham signs it.”
