Dow’s Bid For Governor Threatens Our Health Care, Economy, Education System
Representative Rebecca Dow announced today that she is running for governor of New Mexico, despite her track record of extreme positions that are dangerous to the people of New Mexico. Dow has been complicit in former-President Trump’s attempts to undermine a free and fair election, even failing to condemn the actions of those who attacked our democracy on January 6th, and has consistently voted against the interests of New Mexicans in the ways that would threaten affordable health care, hurt businesses, and negatively impact the wellbeing of our state.
Dow’s record of hiring an employee who was later convicted for the sexual assault of two boys at her organization should raise questions about her claims to be an advocate for New Mexico’s children. Dow’s negligence at her own businesses with devastating effects for two young children makes her unfit for a promotion to higher office.
In the state legislature, she voted against the legalization of cannabis, which will bring thousands of jobs into New Mexico. She voted to restrict access to health care, including by supporting the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. And she voted against increasing teacher pay. Dow has also made it clear that she is staunchly anti-choice and chosen to ally herself with extremist, anti-LGBTQ groups.
“Rebecca Dow has made it clear that she’s a far-right extremist who will side with GOP leaders even when it means threatening our democracy,” said DPNM Chair Jessica Velasquez. “Her policies would be devastating for our health care, economy, and the well being of all New Mexicans.”
