Victory for Progressive Candidates Across New Mexico

Democratic Victories and High Turnout Signal Huge Success In New Mexico Elections

Yesterday, voters across the Land of Enchantment ushered in a new wave of elected officials with progressive, Democratic values. Candidates across New Mexico emphasized the importance of continuing to improve our education system, investing in jobs, lowering the cost of living, and expanding the state’s economy following the COVID-19 pandemic—a platform that has been whole-heartedly endorsed by New Mexico voters.

These progressive victories can be seen across our state and up and down the ballot:

Across New Mexico, the Democratic party worked hard to get out the vote this year—and we saw that hard work pay off. Voter turnout increased from 2019, the last municipal election year in New Mexico, with nearly 20,000 more New Mexicans casting their ballots, including over 115,000 Democrats. The large majority of that turnout came from early and absentee voting—methods Democrats have championed as convenient and simple ways to vote.

Democrats aren’t slowing down as we head into 2022. The party is already building an expansive statewide organization to register, energize, and organize voters to elect Democrats up and down the ticket. New Mexico has an extremely strong top of the ticket this year, including Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham, who has led us through this pandemic and continues to invest in critical policies like supporting educators and students, growing our economy, and making health care more affordable. We are already seeing enthusiasm on the ground and that’s only going to build over the next year.
