Rep. Teresa Leger Fernandez Decisively Wins Debate and Illustrates her Vision for a More Prosperous New Mexico

Albuquerque- Rep. Leger Fernandez has decades of experience serving New Mexico and tonight clearly articulated her accomplishments and vision for tackling New Mexico’s key challenges including expanding our economy, reducing costs, and supporting working families. In contrast, Alexis Martinez Johnson has supported a complete and total abortion ban and again proved that she can’t be trusted to tell the truth or offer any concrete solutions to the challenges New Mexicans face every day. She has previously lost two elections and will lose this one.
“Rep. Leger Fernandez is the right Congresswoman to represent New Mexico’s third congressional district. She is a 17th generation New Mexican, a daughter of rural New Mexico, a cancer survivor, and has dedicated her entire life to serving her communities, building health clinics, schools, and creating jobs,” said Democratic Party of New Mexico Chairwoman Jessica Velasquez.
“Her passion for service comes from her deep love and understanding of the communities she serves, from Farmington, Gallup, and Santa Fe, to Taos, Raton, Clovis, Roswell, and everywhere in between. She has stood up to big pharma to bring down pharmaceutical costs, kept our rural VA health clinics open, and brought billions of dollars of water, broadband, health care, and other investments to New Mexico.  She led the effort to hold the Forest Service accountable in the wake of the Hermit’s Peak/Calf Canyon Wildfire and delivered $2.5 billion to help fully compensate those who lost so much due to Forest Service negligence.”
Alexis’ outrageous accusations, extreme partisan politics, and use of fear mongering are disqualifying. She has no concrete plan or policies to address the issues New Mexicans care about most. New Mexicans cannot afford having someone like Alexis serve us in Congress. We need steady, experienced leadership to fight for New Mexicans, bring important investments to our state, safeguard a woman’s right to choose, and lower costs for working families.
With control of the House of Representatives for the next two years expected to come down to competitive races like that for New Mexico’s Third District, it’s critical that New Mexico voters participate in this general election.
