Ronchetti’s Proposed Abortion Ban Is Identical to The Extremist Ban Proposed Nationally
Yesterday, national Republicans introduced a federal abortion ban in the U.S. Senate, confirming what we’ve always known: the mantle of “states’ rights” was always a ruse.
Here in New Mexico, GOP Nominee for Governor Mark Ronchetti has spent the last few weeks cozying up to the same national Republicans who are leading the charge to punish women and imprison doctors across the country. Ronchetti’s plan to implement an abortion ban in New Mexico is identical to the extremist ban that national Republicans are pushing nationwide.
Ronchetti, who has described himself as “strongly pro-life” for years, has made it clear that he will restrict abortion if elected in New Mexico. He praised the decision to overturn Roe v. Wade and earned an endorsement from the National Right to Life committee, whose general counsel said that a 10-year-old victim of rape should not have access to an abortion.
“By standing with national Republicans and pushing an identical abortion ban in New Mexico, Mark Ronchetti has made it clear that he takes his marching orders from MAGA Republican leaders, not everyday New Mexicans,” said Daniel Garcia, Communications Director at the Democratic Party of New Mexcio. “Ronchetti is a MAGA Republican in a weatherman’s suit. The GOP candidate’s insistence on punishing women and criminalizing doctors makes him an extremist, just like Sen. Lindsey Graham, Gov. Doug Ducey, Gov. Ron DeSantis, and the rest of them.”
Governor Doug Ducey, Chair of the Republican Governors Association, is a key part of the team leading the charge to ban abortion nationwide. He campaigned with Ronchetti in New Mexico last week and signed an abortion ban in Arizona that will take effect next week.
Governor Ron DeSantis, MAGA darling and party leader, signed an abortion ban into law in Florida that is extremely similar to the nationwide abortion ban national Republicans are pushing. He campaigned with Ronchetti in New Mexico last month.
