Regular Voter Registration Deadline:
The voter registration window in New Mexico closes at 5:00 pm MT 28 days before an election.

2021 Municipal Election Deadlines

  • Oct 5: Voter registration (by mail or online) closes.
  • Oct 5: First day that absentee ballots can be mailed to voters (who have submitted an absentee application), and first day that voters can cast their vote in person at their local county clerk’s office.
  • Oct 16: Additional early voting locations open.
  • Oct 28: Last day to request an absentee ballot.
  • Oct 30: Last day of early voting.
  • Nov 2: Election Day.

New Mexico Voting Information

Registering to Vote in New Mexico

To register to vote in New Mexico, you must be:

  • A U.S. citizen;
  • A New Mexico resident;
  • At least 18 years old

You can register or update your registration online here!

To register to vote online, you must have a record on file with the New Mexico Motor Vehicle Division (MVD), and the following information must match:

  • Your social security number
  • Your driver’s license number
  • Your date of birth

 

How can I verify whether or not I am registered?

Once your county clerk successfully processes your voter registration application, whether received by mail or using the online voter registration system, you will receive confirmation by mail from the county clerk.

Additionally, you may use My Registration Information to look up your current voter registration status and information.

Can I register to vote if I have been convicted of a crime?

If you have been convicted of a felony, you can register to vote once you have completed the court-ordered sentence of imprisonment, including any term of parole or probation for the conviction. This provision includes federal, state and out-of-state convictions.

Voting By Mail

Before you can request an absentee ballot, your voter registration must be updated with your current mailing address. The application must be received by the County Clerk’s office no later than 14 days before the election.

Note: The online portal to request an absentee ballot is not yet available for the 2021 Regular Local Election. 

Per statute, absentee ballots will be mailed out beginning October 5th.

All absentee ballots must include the required information and be received by 7:00PM on Election Day, to be accepted and counted. You can track your absentee ballot here!
