Pastor Steve Smothermon Preaches That Ronchetti Personally Assured Him His Goal Is To Ban All Abortion In New Mexico

Last night, Albuquerque’s KOB ran a story that confirms what DPNM has been saying all along—that Mark Ronchetti is LYING to New Mexicans about his anti-abortion agenda. The story includes a video of Pastor Steve Smothermon of Legacy Church, preaching from the pulpit last Sunday and explaining that even though Mark Ronchetti is telling voters that he will ban abortions after 15 weeks of pregnancy, Ronchetti has personally assured Pastor Smothermon that he is pretending to be more moderate to get elected but in reality would seek to ban all abortions in New Mexico. 

To repeat: Mark Ronchetti told Pastor Smothermon that his proposed abortion ban is a lie designed to trick New Mexicans into voting for him.

The full transcript of Pastor Smothermon’s remarks are below:

“Now I know Mark Ronchetti came out and some people were very upset because he said that ‘Well I think its reasonable that 15 weeks, up to 15 weeks it’s reasonable to have an abortion up to that point but not after that point.’ 

And I know a lot of us got mad. And I did too. 

I had a long talk with him for hours. 

And I said ‘Dude right out of the gate you blew it.’ He said ‘well here is what I was trying to do.’ And I said ‘Yeah I know what you were trying to do but you didn’t do it.’ 

And here’s what he said, he said ‘Listen, I just want to start with getting rid of partial birth abortion in the whole state.’ Which we should be happy with. 

And he said ‘But I can’t just go in and do it all 100% because we won’t ever get elected.’ He said, ‘I just want to start,’ but his goal would be to end abortion in New Mexico. Just so you know. 

And you say how do I know that, cause I talked to him for hours.”
